Deep Ecology- the basis of Universal Brotherhood:
Help Nature and work on with her; and Nature will regard thee as one of her creators and make obeisance. The Voice Of The Silence
Deep Ecology and Universal brotherhood are not a Utopian dream which can never be realized; they are a fact in nature.
They are innate in the earth and beings on it; a living ever-present fact from which no individual man or woman or nation can be separated from. They are the reality and we, ignorant in the belief of our separateness, cause discord as we push against it.
We know that we are experiencing the same things; we eat, we sleep and we wake, we work, we learn, we love, we weep and suffer, we are alive in similar organisms, we bleed, we breathe, and we die. We know that we are all in this existence together.
We also know that we are separate, I am I and you are you and we are different one from the other. We all want things for ourselves, for our family and for our separate society.
How can we be both – one and many? We can start to understand it by seeing that we are awareness beings. Without awareness our bodies become mere physical organisms, functioning on a purely biological level.
We are being aware here now as we read this article. If you accept that simple statement, then take it a step further; looking at awareness, we see that it is moving, focusing, perceiving and understanding in a sort of free way.
Our awareness moves in space and time and by the very nature of its movement we can then say that it is energy. Understanding that we are awareness beings, moving in space and time and that our awareness is energy, then we can say that we are energy beings too. Energetically we resonate in this world in different ways which depends on our multifaceted conditioned physical and social/environmental inheritance (Karma) and on our momentary intent.
We are energetic, awareness beings with all the possibilities of experiencing this life on this planet. Our experiences, as individual facets of an Omnipresent awareness principle, are unique. Our individual experiences give us the sense of separateness, one from the other.
Writing from my own place in time, I have every opportunity to experience anything I want. Every bit of world knowledge is at my fingertips instantly on my computer, I can watch world events unfolding, I can travel and speak to people one to one and for me here in Canada, so far, I can live free of war and fear.
I share these opportunities with many others in this north western society. We spend an enormous amount of our energy, day to day on our own project and we don’t act as if Deep Ecology and Universal Brotherhood are part of who we are.
It’s as if we have made Ecology and Universal Brotherhood some kind of intellectual ideal and we are saying that it is something that we have to work towards to realize it in the world. We have been distracted and forgotten where we come from.
One of the greatest distractions which has lasted centuries, has been the denial of the spirit in man, putting spirit out there as an ideal, and saying that you have to work towards it or have some mediator to work on your behalf to attain it. We are gradually waking up from that terrible disillusionment, and the churches have to teach another approach to man’s spirituality, should they want to survive.
I am alive, I have awareness and energy and I have intention; I don’t have to be told that, in order to know I am a spiritual being. I am it, I am that, I am a being in “beness”, (as it is described in the first fundamental proposition – S.D.) It is not an intellectual pursuit. The same theory holds true for Deep Ecology and Universal
Brotherhood – it’s not an intellectual ideal, it’s happening here and now. The unfortunate part is that we have not yet fully realized how we are part of being here as a facet of the whole.
Every thought we think is transparent and the energy that we emanate is picked up and influences everyone around us. Some of us are aware of this and can quickly “read” the energy which is exuded from people we come in contact with and places which are energized by peoples’ thoughts and energies. Most of us absorb energies on a subconscious level sort of like atmospheric climate change, aura, or “vibes.”
If we could internalize this concept, I think it would change the way we are in the world. We would assume responsibility for our thoughts and energy. If we assume responsibility for our thoughts and energy, how would it change the way we are acting in our day to day interactions with others? Would we be different in the work place, with our families and in our reactions to world events?
When we ask ourselves these questions and act on it, we are bringing Universal Brotherhood into a daily reality. Universal Brotherhood is an individual awakening, made on the realization that we are in a shared reality – Deep Ecology.
The realization of the ideal of Universal Brotherhood must start with an individual remembering of who we are as spiritual energetic awareness beings in a world based on Deep Ecology.
I am One, I am Many, I am One We are One, We are Many, We are One.
